The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Bahra University, Himachal Pradesh, marked Pharmacy Week with a series of meaningful academic and public-awareness activities aimed at highlighting the vital role of pharmacists in healthcare and India’s rapidly growing pharmaceutical sector.
The celebrations brought together students, faculty members and staff with a shared focus on responsible medicine use, healthcare awareness, antimicrobial resistance and the evolving role of pharmacists in modern healthcare.
A major highlight of the celebrations was a Public Awareness Rally and Nukkad Natak (Street Play) organised around the theme “स्वस्थ भारत: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance.” Through an engaging street performance and awareness rally, pharmacy students communicated an important public-health message about the responsible use of antibiotics, prevention of antibiotic misuse and the growing need to address Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
The students used theatre, dialogue and public interaction to explain how inappropriate or unnecessary use of antibiotics can contribute to antimicrobial resistance and why responsible antibiotic practices are essential for protecting public health.
Developing Pharmacists for a Growing Pharmaceutical Industry
The Pharmacy programme at Bahra University is focused on developing industry-ready, professionally skilled and socially responsible pharmacists who can contribute to India’s expanding pharmaceutical and healthcare ecosystem.
With India emerging as a major global pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare destination, the demand for skilled pharmacy professionals continues to grow across areas such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality control, quality assurance, research and development, clinical research, regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy and healthcare services.
The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Bahra University seeks to prepare students for these emerging opportunities by combining academic learning with practical exposure, professional development and awareness of contemporary healthcare challenges.
The emphasis extends beyond classroom education, encouraging students to understand the real-world responsibilities of pharmacists and their contribution to patient care, medicine safety and public health.
From Classroom Learning to Community Awareness
The Pharmacy Week celebrations provided students with an opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom and communicate important healthcare messages directly to the community.
The Nukkad Natak on antimicrobial resistance particularly demonstrated how pharmacy students can use their professional knowledge to create awareness among the public.
The initiative reinforced the message:
“Use Antibiotics Wisely – Save Lives, Protect the Future.”
Such activities are designed to nurture communication skills, teamwork, leadership, social responsibility and confidence among students—qualities that are increasingly important for successful careers in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
Academic Leadership and Faculty Mentorship
The Pharmacy Week initiatives were conducted under the academic leadership of the Dean, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the Head of the Department of Pharmacy, with active support from faculty members and staff.
Their guidance ensured that the celebrations remained closely connected with the academic and professional objectives of pharmacy education while giving students a platform to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity and commitment to public health.
The active participation of students reflected the School’s emphasis on experiential learning and professional engagement.
Preparing Students for the Future of Pharmacy
The pharmaceutical industry is undergoing rapid transformation with developments in pharmaceutical research, biotechnology, digital healthcare, precision medicine, clinical research, pharmacovigilance and advanced drug-development technologies.
In this changing environment, tomorrow’s pharmacists need more than theoretical knowledge. They require a combination of technical expertise, practical understanding, communication abilities, ethical awareness and adaptability.
Bahra University’s School of Pharmaceutical Sciences is committed to creating an academic environment where students can develop these capabilities and prepare themselves for diverse career opportunities in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.
Through academic programmes, practical learning, awareness initiatives and student-centric activities, the School continues to work towards its vision of nurturing competent young pharmacists who can contribute meaningfully to India’s healthcare and pharmaceutical growth story.
Pharmacy Education with a Purpose
The Pharmacy Week celebrations at Bahra University served as a reminder that the role of a pharmacist extends far beyond dispensing medicines. Pharmacists are important healthcare professionals who contribute to safe medication practices, patient awareness, disease prevention, public health and responsible use of medicines.
The successful Public Awareness Rally and Nukkad Natak showcased this broader role while giving students an opportunity to become ambassadors of healthcare awareness.
With a focus on quality pharmacy education, industry readiness, practical exposure and community engagement, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Bahra University continues to work towards developing the next generation of pharmacy professionals equipped to participate in and contribute to the growth of India’s pharmaceutical and healthcare sector.
Pharmacy Week at Bahra University was therefore not just a celebration of the profession—it was a celebration of the responsibility, knowledge and potential of the young pharmacists who will shape the future of healthcare
